This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are in a Title I setting. They have many of the same challenges as students around the country, but also have to deal with outside issues that I know I didn't even know about when I was their age.
They need access to tools to broaden their horizons and expand their knowledge of the world beyond their neighborhoods.
There is a lot of potential in my students, but they need to see what the rest of the world has to offer so they can reach for it.
My Project
We need some basic supplies to keep our learning going this year. We need some card stock paper for projects. We also need some colored paper for reminders and special notices. We always need new crayons. It is so hard to add color to assignments without good supplies! I also included new sharpies. They go dull too quickly! I use the labels I included to barcode books, label files, and add information on the back of student ID badges. The uses for labels are endless!
I also added some tissues to our list of supplies.
I never get any at the beginning, being the librarian, but we definitely need them! Students test in the library and have classes in here every day.
