I am a second year Library Media Specialist at the school where I taught 3rd grade. It is a Title I school serving pre-K through 5th grade students. Many of the students are not reading on grade level and are not particularly interested in reading. They all know they are supposed to read, but I want to help them develop a love and enjoyment in reading for pleasure as well as reading for knowledge. The students will all come to the library for lessons, book check out, and reading time once a week. I have many great plans for our media center, including reading groups and a maker space! We use the Accelerated Reader program, but I look forward to finding better ways for students and teachers to use it and give students more ownership of their reading goals.
