Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school every day with a smile on their
faces wanting to learn and ready for a new adventure.
My fourth graders are eager to share stories about their families, their lives, and their dreams. I hope for my students to be ready with knowledge and with curiosity and interest in what the future holds for them. I want them to believe that they can change their future.
My students are from different parts of the area, but they are primarily from under-served communities that are traditionally limited in their access to great educational experiences. They are primarily Latino and speak a variety of home languages such as Mam, Quiche, Spanish, and English. Many of them are economically disenfranchised. Ninety percent of the students at my school receive free lunch.
Their reality has not stopped them from striving to better themselves. They aspire to go to college, to learn, and to contribute back to their community. They dream of being lawyers, doctors, teachers, scientists, and soccer players. They want to be that positive change that their community needs.
My Project
My students take 4 computer based assessments a trimester, sometimes even more. With so many tests, our current headphones are not holding up so well. My students are hearing a lot of crackling instead of directions when testing. Our current headphones need to be replaced.
No student wants to take a test, but if they have to, might as well do it with the best materials.
The RockPapa headphones will help alleviate the pain of testing and allow my students to hear the directions for the tests clearly. For many of my students, being able to hear everything in an assessment can help a student perform better.
