I teach Fundamentals of Art at a medium-sized high school in Little Rock, Arkansas. My art students are very talented and love learning about the many different areas of art. Many of my students are very bright and participate in Advanced Placement classes, and I often hear them say that they love their art class because it provides an escape from the pressure of their hard classes.
So far we have had the opportunity to utilize several different media including pencil, watercolor, acrylic, chalk, and printmaking.
The students have already brainstormed several different projects that they would like to create, and I know their work would be amazing.
My Project
Students need supplies to create outstanding work that they can be proud of for both their individual portfolios as well as for our Art Sale projects.
The markers, paints, and color pencils will allow students to create vibrant works of art that stand out at our art sale.
They've been using existing supplies as beginners, but now that they understand which media works best for each project, they can see how much to charge for different works with the materials used.
An example of one of the projects these supplies will be used for is for creating a vibrant African mask mural in the style of Lois Mailou Jones. Collaborative projects like these help build community in the art room as well as broaden young artists' cultural perspectives.
