One of the most exciting moments has been watching students use the new resources independently as they practice difficult passages, make adjustments, and take ownership of their musical progress. Having the right supplies available allows us to spend less time worrying about equipment and more time making music.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were excited to see the new supplies and immediately wanted to put them to use. They were especially excited to have resources that were specifically selected to meet the needs of our band program. Their enthusiasm has carried into our daily rehearsals, where students are becoming more confident in their ability to prepare music and solve musical challenges.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue applying these resources as we prepare our current music and build toward upcoming performances. Students will continue working on tone quality, intonation, rhythm, articulation, and ensemble skills while using the materials to support their individual practice. Most importantly, we are working toward creating independent musicians who understand how to identify areas for improvement and use the resources available to them to become better performers. With these supplies, students have been able to create clay projects for our ceramics unit, which needed specialized materials, tools, and storage space. Having appropriate storage is especially important because it allows students to safely keep their artwork throughout the different stages of the ceramics process without worrying about projects being damaged or lost.\r\n\r\nThese materials have also allowed students to experiment with other forms of art beyond traditional drawing and painting. Students have created paintings while exploring different techniques, colors, and compositions, as well as handmade books using bookbinding methods. Donations to my art classroom continue to give students access to materials and experiences that help them grow as artists and discover new ways to express themselves. With these materials, students had the opportunity to explore a variety of artistic processes and create artwork that could be sold at our Christmas Art Sale. They also helped in making promotional materials for the sale, such as posters. Students created watercolor paintings, handmade keychains, stickers, cyanotypes, and many other unique art pieces. Having access to these materials allowed students to experiment with different mediums while creating artwork that reflected their own individual creativity. \r\n\r\nThe Christmas Art Sale also gave students a valuable opportunity to see their artwork have a purpose beyond the classroom. They were able to experience what it is like to create products, prepare artwork for sale, and share their work with families, teachers, and members of the school community. The donations helped make these experiences possible by providing all of the necessary materials that we needed to put this event on. \r\n\r\nMost importantly, these donations helped students see themselves as artists and understand that their creativity has value. For many students, it is hard to see the potential that their art has. One of my favorite moments was watching a group of students reveal their prints after rinsing—the excitement when the deep blue tones appeared and their compositions came to life was incredible.\r\nThe exposure frames made the process feel more professional and precise, which helped students take more ownership over their work. This showed the students how other lifestyles can compare to those living in America. It was a good way to learn about certain cities and perhaps, demonstrate new perspectives.
