My students are bright, inquisitive and show up each day, both in person and via zoom, with a smile. In our classroom of 29, almost all students participated in the various aspects of distance learning, from engaging with online platforms to showing up for guided reading, read aloud or math.
Though we are away from our school building, my students are striving each day to meet their goals and to grow as readers and leaders.
While my students may have access to some technology at home, it is my responsibility to continuously put new texts in front of them to push their reading growth. Through the support of this project I will ensure I am refreshing our classroom library and sharing these texts with students to make sure even though they are away from school, they have new and exciting books to read!
One of my favorite things to do is travel, and share what I have seen around the world with my students so the travel bug is sparked. My students are inquisitive children who want to learn more about the world, but currently our school curriculum is lacking a consistent social studies curriculum. Through these non-fiction books, I want to be able to teach my students about other countries and cultures to ensure that my students are prepared to engage with others who have differing backgrounds and experiences than them.
Through these texts that highlight countries and children around the world, my students will be able to travel around the world within the 4 walls of our classroom.
