Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hungry to learn! They love hands-on activities that explore their creativity. They are ready for anything.
I teach in a very low-income area in California.
Many of the students come from families where one or both of their parents are farm workers. Many of their parents are not educated but want the best for their children. They are very supportive of the teacher! The area also contains a lot of kids in situations where there are a lot of mental health issues. The kids come with a lot of baggage, but the students are great and impressionable. Most have never left the neighborhood, so they are very excited to learn about other places and things. I love this group of kids! They need positive influences in their lives, and I am very excited to be one of those contributors. These kids are smart and need to be shown how to be successful and make learning fun!
My Project
Our students love to play ball with each other at recess. The problem is that all of our school equipment looks the same and we are constantly loosing balls. If we had equipment in different colors from the rest of the school, we could see our classroom balls from a distance and easily collect them. Also, the balls that we do have are older and do not hold air very well. This project would allow the students to play with balls that can actually bounce and roll in the manner that they were intended to be used.
New identifiable equipment is needed in order to keep our classroom balls in stock.
With equipment, the students will have resources to be active during PE and recess.
