Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are constantly asking, "Is it lunch time yet?" That's when we're glad we have prepared with a few healthy snacks to enjoy, especially when we're on a field trip!
In the cafeteria of our school, we can tell what our students' favorite subject is: lunch!
We're glad to see our children enjoying the healthy lunch that the school provides, but we're often concerned to see the snack choices that they bring in every day. They are attracted to the bright, colorful packages of snacks that are high in fat, calories, sodium, and sugar rather than more nutrient-rich choices.
The third grade students at our school love active learning as well. We enjoy taking them on as many field trips as possible to get them up out of their seats. This, of course, takes a lot of preparation. Since we are planning a trip to our state capitol, we will be leaving before school starts and returning after the school bell has already rung. To be sure, our students will need a snack or two along the way to keep their energy up between mealtimes. We consider this the perfect opportunity to teach our children about healthy eating habits.
My Project
We are so excited about traveling with our students on a charter bus and visiting our State House, our Governor's Mansion, and the campus of a university. With such a long day planned, we have scheduled in a nutritious snack break in the morning and in the afternoon. Our field trip will be the perfect opportunity to discuss healthy snack choices and hydration as an additional part of our health and wellness unit.
Thank you for considering our project, which will provide the opportunity for our kids to enjoy healthier choices while they're on-the-go exploring new places and learning new things.
We're grateful that you share in our vision to educate our children about healthy living!
