My Students

I teach 600 students in music. Most come from homes without many resources, but despite their limited resources, they come to school with a positive outlook on life and desire to work hard and be good students. Sadly, many of my students have never touched a musical instrument. Most do not know how to read music, or how to be good performers. I hope to be able to start a music program at my school that trains up great musicians!

My Project

We are a title I school with limited music supplies. 86% of our students receive free or reduced lunch, and are unable to purchase even a dollar store recorder for class. We will be starting a violin ensemble with the 8 violins requested. In my experience, the children that struggle in core subjects such as reading and math, excel and enjoy the fine arts. I'm trying to cultivate the love of the arts in my students that already show a passion for music, and the ones who are struggling to find their passion. I want to start a music program at my elementary school that inspires students to continue music in middle and high school!
