My students need an iPad, case and headphones to use in literacy stations to listen to books and record their own reading for self assessment and sharing.
My students are social learners who are energetic, fun-loving, and eager to learn. They look forward to coming to school every day. They are an energetic group of second graders who love to learn through doing, not just by sitting and watching. They love to read and share their learning with their peers.
Our school is known in the community as the "Best School Evaah" and my students live up to the reputation with their love for learning.
Some students face disabilities, language barriers and other struggles but all students are helpful, working well with all of their classmates. They are truly accepting of each others differences.
My Project
I am working to implement learning stations to give students time to actively engage with language and reading while providing opportunities for students to work with small groups every day. These learning stations will build independence and confidence by offering choice in different aspects of literacy learning yet meet the varying needs of individual students. As students are working independently on engaging activities I will be able to pull small groups to instruct on targeted goals for each student.
A hands-on approach is important for learners because it engages all students in the learning process.
The iPad offers many uses as an engaging literacy station. It will first be used as a listening station. Hearing fluent reading is beneficial to early readers as they continue to build their own fluency. Students will also be able to record their own reading for self reflection and sharing. Parents will be invited to share favorite books with the class that can be listened to on the iPad.
Students will also be able to use the iPad as a multimedia tool to share ideas and create presentations. This project will allow students a different tool to explore ideas, communicate meaning and articulate information. The addition of this technology will benefit the literacy learning of students and help them confidently face the challenges of future learning.
