Second grade readers are reading longer, more complex texts in a variety of genres such as informational text and fiction. They are developing comprehension skills as they talk about what they read and present learning in different ways. Having a set of Kindles in the classroom will allow students to establish book clubs where they can read the same books, track their thinking, and highlight important text in order to be able to discuss their reading with peers. Technology is becoming a more important part of the 2nd grade classroom as students learn more about it and use it more frequently for specific tasks. Students will also have access to apps to enhance and share their learning. These Kindles will allow us to integrate technology with reading by creating a fun environment to read and share books with others while we become stronger readers and kindle a lifelong love for reading.
