iPod Touches Support Fact Fluency and Mastery

My Students

A typical day in my classroom...math, math, math. I am the sole math teacher at my grade level. It is CRUCIAL for students to have fluency in their multiplication facts in 4th grade. Mastery is essential in many math units in 4th grade.

My students are hard at work immersed in the Common Core curriculum.

They are mastering algorithms in multiplication and division through perseverance, practice, modeling, and more. We drill our multiplication fact fluency daily as this is a crucial part of being successful in the bigger picture of multiplication, division, fractions, order of operations, and much more. Although many students are truly mastering their facts, many are still stuck in a rut and need something different in order to gain mastery.

My Project

With a set of 10 iPod Touch, I will be able to load apps specifically targeting fact fluency skills. One app in particular is only available to Apple products. I have found the highest success rate with students using this app (Times Tables by 24x7digitalllc). Students will utilize these drills (selected apps) daily to gain fact fluency in multiplication. This fluency will allow students to focus on algorithms and process when solving problems with accuracy and precision.

Many students in my classroom from low income families are struggling with flash cards and time for fact fluency practice.

The donations of iPod Touches will change students lives by providing selected apps known to boost fluency in a quick and engaging way. Students who know their multiplication facts attack larger problems with confidence, knowing that they can focus on steps and procedures.
