My students need an mp3 player and speaker set to be able to listen to a variety of music in the classroom, as well as listen to stories as a center activity.
Help make learning exciting for us! I love the use of the ipod in the classroom. Not only does it expose students to technology, but it also engages them in a whole new way.
My students will be the first ones to step into our first grade classroom in the fall, as the school has just been built.
Though these children are fortunate to have a new school and classroom, the school will not have it in its budget to start out with a lot of extra materials. That leaves a lot up to the teachers to get the items in creative ways!
My Project
I feel my most important job as a teacher is to reach each and every student. To do this I need to keep my students engaged and interested in multiple ways. One way I have found useful in accomplishing this is through technology and/or music.
I would use the ipod and docking station in multiple ways. I have plans of recording stories onto it with correlating music in the background and using it as a listening center in my first grade classroom. I feel this is so very important, as following along with a story leads them down the path to becoming an independent reader. I would also use it for educational songs to help make learned concepts more concrete. I use music in my classroom very regularly, whether it be "brain music" that soothes them, or a song that teaches them all about the vowels, and the children always respond very well to this. When I use music, it pulls in students that I find more difficult reaching in other ways.
These students are fortunate for their situation, but I also feel that I should do everything in my power to have items available to them for enrichment purposes in their new classroom.
This ipod can be used in a powerful way. I feel strongly that this would be another tool to pull in a possibly disinterested child, and help them on their path to literacy through using this as a learning station. You would be altering our days in a positive way with your donation.
