iPlan Finance & Literacy Digital Stories with MacBook

My students need MacBook Air with a case to create iMovies, presentations, and excel projects to communicate, explore, create, and present digital stories.

My Students

My elementary school is a low income Title I and the students in my classes have limited interactions with technology outside of my classroom. When working with the students, we often create digital stories but technology is limited for students to create freely.

Students in my classes have limited interactions with technology outside of my classroom but they enjoy coming to school each day and participating in daily activities. They love using technology! My students have so much fun telling their parents about the projects that we try to do in the class. Many of my students often ask whether we could get some tablets for them to use in class so that they can hold the technology in their hands.

My Project

Students will be able to use iMovie on the Macbook to create their mathematical stories about budgeting and finances. Since word problems, aka story problems, are essential within the mathematics standards, and my students will use their writing skills from their Language Arts classes. Students will join math problem solving elements to pre-writing, revising, writing, and proofreading. They will also be able to record their voices for the stories and create or take pictures using the Macbook while creating financial budgets for their ideal summer family vacation. Critical thinking, synthesis, application, evaluation, and understanding are higher order skills addressed with this real world connected project and will enhance students' lives. Since students will be creating financial plans, budgets, and savings plans, they will be making connections early about financial planning.

I facilitate and educate students that are products of low socio-economic environments.

Because of this, my students do not have ready access to many of the technological tools needed for successfully completing their in-class and online mathematics courses. This project will connect my students with technology in order to take their learning and exploring to another level.
