Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are unique individuals, who come daily to school, ready to learn and to be part of our school community.
Our school is a Title I school, with approximately 95% of the students on free or reduced lunch.
Many of these students come from immigrant families who are seeking a better life. The low income/high poverty that surrounds them does not deter their spirits to learn. By providing different learning experiences, success in life will be attained. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, my students are faced with various obstacles, some stem from their home life, while others stem from learning gaps. Despite the many challenges they face, I strive to provide my students with creative, engaging and meaningful learning experiences.
My students face daily challenges outside and inside our classroom. Hurricane Harvey, along with our winter storm disrupted many of their lives. Because of this, my intent is to keep education alive and going for them, with positive learning experiences. Our school is a safe place, where I can inspire them to have and desire academic excellence.
My Project
I am asking for a couple of iPads to help my students with their reading and math skills, along with helping them keep up with the technology proficiency they need to acquire to continue their education.
My plan is for the iPads to help my students further their skills in reading and math concepts.
Reading and math are essential for life, so honing on these skills will enable my students to be successful life long learners. There are many free apps that are available to us, along with access to district programs that will allow my students to make daily connections with reading and math.
My students don't have much and don't ask for anything, but I want them to have accessibility to an equal education. Technology is not a necessity for their home, so having these resources at school will certainly make them aware of engaged learning.
