Ipads Helping Children With Autism One App At A Time
My students need a classroom IPad to aid in their academic progress and growth. The iPad can also serve as a form of communication for my non-verbal students.
Many of my students with autism have communication deficiencies. IPads have the capability to give my students a voice, to communicate their wants and needs.
Majority of my students have autism, intellectual disabilities etc.
Some are non-verbal and some have limited communication proficiency. My students love to work for the computer, SMARTboard activities, and many other technological devices. They attend a public school in St. Louis, MO where they are a part of applied behavior analysis programs but push-in to general education classes occasionally.
With a classroom iPad, my students engagement and motivation will improve dramatically. For the students who are non-verbal, the iPad will effect their day to day lives drastically. The communication apps on the iPad will allow them to use a socially acceptable device to communicate with their family, friends, and teachers more effectively. Before academics can be addressed, the students must be able to communicate effectively.
If you didn't have a voice to tell those around you that you were hungry, thirsty, or in pain how frustrating would that be?
Providing these students with an augmentative communication device that is socially appropriate will allow them to engage in more general education activities, build relationships with their family members and friends, and make academic progress.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
