There is no such thing as a typical day in my classroom. I work with students who have severe behavioral challenges that bring with them academic challenges as well. I have the opportunity to work with them and help them to learn replacement behaviors.
My students face challenges in dealing with behavioral issues.
They are bright students who have a desire to learn but face unique challenges. My job is to help them overcome the behavioral issues that are negatively impacting their academics. These students love technology and it is a positive incentive for them.
We use iPads for class activities but the students would greatly benefit from being able to have one they can use on an individual basis for things such as multiplication tables. The game based environment works great for the student population I work with. They will also be used in our classroom chess program. I teach the students how to play chess as it has many benefits. They learn critical thinking skills, how to manage impulsive behavior, how to interact with other students in a positive manner, and how to show good sportsmanship. The iPads would be used for giving chess instruction and for solving chess problems.
