My Students

7th Grade students are expected to perform research projects, surf for sources, type up essays and be all around tech-literate! Unfortunately, we are limited in our access to tech and many students are restricted from Internet in their homes! Help us expand our world beyond the classroom with iPads!

My students are sharp, boisterous, and eager to learn.

They are highly inquisitive, hard working, and take pride in their accomplishments and learning. They have a real thirst for information and enjoy any bits of cultural knowledge they can absorb. The most exciting part of teaching my students is the looks on their faces when they are exposed to something new. They always want more; to know more, to see more, to be exposed to more. When I watch my students read a new book that introduces them to a new world, I can see their minds expand as the questions pile up in their minds. They get lost in conversation, challenge and support each others' thinking, and celebrate any connections they can make with the text. You can see their passion when they literally jump out of their seats when debating and engaging their peers. Unfortunately, we are limited in our ability to research and explore.

My Project

Students would use these iPads to engage in leveled-literacy programs, grammar and writing development, research projects (a 7th Grade Common Core branch) and develop basic computer navigation and typing skills. These tablets could also assist our with our accommodations with our special education students by making modifications and accommodations easily accessible and created. In addition students in 7th grade are expected to know how to type, research, and navigate the web. Unfortunately many of our students have never had access to computers and word programs before and are therefore lacking in such skills. In order to one day be viable candidates in the ever competitive job market, students must develop these technology skills.

My students are currently reading at a range of grade levels.

Having access to iPads would allow me to differentiate lessons in a way that would allow all students to access the grade level instruction. The ability to access programs that support literacy in the classroom could revolutionize the way we teach. Students who have fallen behind in the past and thus have difficulty engaging grade level content would be given the opportunity to participate in ways they had not been able to before!
