Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a third grade class of twenty-three students, where the majority have a first language that is not English.
Seven of these twenty-three students are currently reading below grade level.
To help these students close the gap in their current reading level and where they need to be by the end of the year, we spend a lot of our day listening to reading (to hear readers modeling fluent reading) and working with words (to learn the nuances of the English language). We have a lot of apps on our iPads to support these goals, however, with one iPad for every four students to use, their time with the devices is limited.
My Project
These Apple iPad minis will enhance the educational lives of my students immediately! We already have a wealth of apps at our disposal, with new ones added frequently. Having additional devices will increase the amount of time students are able to use the technology to improve their skills.
Having additional iPads in the classroom would mean that every student will be able to have time using the devices every day!
We use our iPads for ELA, Math, and STEM every day. We use apps for math fact and sight word practice, and the students LOVE using the QR code reader to check their own work!
