Technology is advancing at a rapid pace, are our students prepared to use it? Nowadays, teaching students how to use technology is just as important as teaching them math! iPads will help students learn both skills (and more) at the same time.
My class demographics, which mirror my school's demographics, include a diverse population of learners.
Children who develop typically, children with special needs and children who are gifted learn side-by-side in the same classroom. We are always striving to design our lessons so that ALL students are able to access the curriculum and be engaged in every class activity.
My Project
Having an iPad with case in the classroom makes a huge difference in how I teach and how students learn. I have an LCD projector in my classroom and I plan on using the iPad's projection capabilities to share different educational apps with my students that will enrich and enhance their studies. With the iPad, I can share apps with my entire class and have students participate in a whole group activity, or use the iPad as a center rotation that students can use in small groups. I have already explored and researched different apps on the Periodic Table of Elements, the human body, states and capitals, and the Presidents of the United States. An iPad would help me share these apps with my students very easily, and hopefully expose them to new and exciting ways to learn. I also plan on using the iPad and keyboard to allow individual students to access online textbooks and educational resources to reinforce, reteach, and/or practice concepts taught in class.
This donation will help me be a better teacher by showing my students that learning is not just reading a textbook and filling out worksheets, but about acquiring, retaining, and applying new information and skills.
It will also help me bridge the learning gap, as I can provide students with online resources, such as multiplication and division apps that break down complex problems in meaningful ways for our diverse learners. Finally, technology is a great motivator for our students!
