My students need tablets for the practice of reading, writing, math, and typing skills to help them be successful on state wide tests and curriculum in the 21st century.

My Students

Walk into our room and you'll hear keyboards clicking, chat boxes dinging, and YouTube videos playing. Are my students off task? NO! They are using Ipads to meet their individual needs, build collaborative skills, and gain the necessary technical knowledge to be successful in the 21st century.

My students are an amazing bunch of kids!!

They range in interests, abilities, and cultural background. Some are athletes, some are strong readers, some struggle in math, and some have a wit quicker than your favorite comedians. However, they all have one thing in common: they are all part of the Mr. Rivera's class community. We work hard to build a strong community in my classroom and technology integration plays a key role in this. We are a school inside a large district in Las Vegas . My district is a Google for Education domain. My students have access to Drive and Classroom. We use the school's Laptops as much as we can, but only have 30 Laptops for 700+ students. My students shine while using Laptops. The quietest student becomes a leader in technology while the normal leader learns to accept help from others.

My Project

I am requesting 10 Ipad Pro's with keyboards. The Tablets will be used on a daily basis for a variety of subjects and purposes. In the intermediate elementary grades, students are expected to be able to type out their writing and be fluent in their keyboarding skills. Without enough computers in the classroom and a limited time in the school computer lab, it is difficult to make sure each student gets the time they need to spend gaining these skills. Not only will the Tablets be used for typing out their writing, research, creating presentations, and test preparation, but they will also be learning the foundation skill of navigating through the web. Technology in the classroom is all the more important for our school district at this time, because of the new standardized test based on the Common Core State Standards, called Smarter Balance will be implemented this year. This test is taken on the computer and students will be expected to have these computer skills.
