My Students

Our art students come from a variety of socioeconomic, cultural, and artistic backgrounds. Some of our students come to us and have never created art. I work hard to incorporate art creation, aesthetics, art history, and art criticism into my students' lessons and make it my personal goal for these kids to enjoy walking into the art room to create! In our art room, we make connections to the core areas (math, reading, social studies, science and writing) so students see that art connects to many parts of our lives.

Our art students are always creating, doodling, drawing, sculpting, folding, carving, critiquing, analyzing, comparing and learning!

We are a busy classroom!

My Project

My current staff iPad is outdated and lacks the functionality of an iPad Pro, making it increasingly difficult to use in the classroom and from home.

Students learn in many different ways - being able to accurately annotate on lessons, quickly create virtual drawing demonstrations, and document the art processes on an iPad will make lessons go more smoothly!

Having a tool like an iPad Pro would allow me to prepare and easily access art lessons and materials from online resources and my Google Drive files, connect wirelessly to our classroom board when in the classroom, and give on-the-fly drawing demonstrations when students have quick questions without the awkward set up of an old iPad and paper (from home and in school). This past year, I recorded all of my lessons on my computer - describing shading, line weight, value, etc. was increasingly difficult as I had to set up a secondary demonstration of the process. Even then, it was difficult to see and I was unable to elaborate for students that had questions. With the iPad's Apple Pen feature, I could annotate the screen clearly as I deliver demonstrations, helping to clarify the information that I present. The pencil and apps recognize pencil pressure, shading, and more - all essential to a clear explanation and demonstration in art! I can also take screenshots and recordings of my annotations that I can then send to help other students who need similar assistance. This is especially beneficial for our paraprofessionals and special needs students.

In short, an iPad would make me more versatile, mobile, and helpful in our distance learning and in the classroom!
