Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students attend a growing school district in a small town in a rural area of the state, which presents many challenges in their education. While we see a lot of support from the community when it comes to things like teacher salary and building funding, we are woefully under funded when it comes to basic school supplies.
My students are kind, clever, creative and hugely invested in their own learning, and only need the resources to truly make that happen.
Many of these students can't afford the basic school supply list, and many of my students come to school with second hand equipment; I don't mean reusing a binder or pencil case, but having to reuse a partially used notebook or age yellowed filler paper.
My Project
I want to decrease the barrier between my eyes and my students work as much as possible, and between my students' eyes and my descriptions. When class sizes are reaching the mid thirties and beyond, it can be most or all of a class period before I can get back to a centralized location like my desk or a document camera. I want to be able to move freely between the students and have real, 1:1 handwriting on the screen as I teach, as well as providing a mobile place to monitor technology use while moving through the classroom.
It is the closest that I can get to a paperless classroom, smoothly moving between all of my resources and effortlessly projecting, sharing, manipulating, and annotating information live on screen.
The best part is that the Apple Pencil Styles is absolutely identical to normal writing use. Students won't need to adjust to a weird or finicky pad or disc stylus. They don't need to learn the right way to hold their hand in an unnatural way against the screen. Instead, I can set the iPad in front of them and have perfect, easy activation of the skills that they already have for the entire class to interact with.
I want to keep pushing myself to stay on top of the best of what is possible with technology, and this would enable me to fully engage the plans I have without being held back by older hardware and lower quality tools.
This provides an opportunity for the best possible use of the projector and screen in my room to have my thoughts and students work cleanly and perfectly interchange as needed.
