My Students

My students belong to the generation of "digital natives". Most do not remember a time before iPads. They are easily bored with lectures and worksheets. I use our SmartBoard every day. With an iPad Mini as a remote for it, I will be able to move around the room and engage the students in the lesson.

I teach 7th grade science in a district of moderate poverty in Oklahoma.

Many students have electronic devices, but most do not. Our district policy does not allow students to use their own electronic devices during class time. So, even if a few students in each class volunteered to bring their own iPads to class, we would not be allowed to use them. If we had an iPad Mini designated for our class use, our problem would be solved.

My Project

The iPad Mini is a smaller, less expensive version of the Apple iPad. I am requesting the simple model that only uses WiFi, which is provided by our district. Having an iPad Mini to use as a remote control for my desktop computer as it is used with our SmartBoard will get me out from behind my desk and among the students in the classroom. This will enable me to move around the room and keep the students engaged in the lesson. I will also be able to hand it off to students to allow them the opportunity to lead the lessons as we explore new ideas.

Your donation for my project will allow me to keep my students interested in our lessons, utilize our SmartBoard and desktop computer, and also promote leadership and confidence as students are allowed to take turns "running the show".
