My Students

Can you remember the first book you ever read? Can you remember the first time you used technology to improve a daily task? Imagine combining both of those thrills into one! That is what an iPad can do for students who are bored with learning the "old way."

My school is in a high poverty area.

Thirty percent of my students come from countries other than the United States. Many of these students are refugees from the countries of Burma and Iraq. Many of my students are unable to afford necessary school supplies. Many of them also lack enthusiasm for reading and general school activities because they are not engaged with what they are learning. These students want to learn and love doing projects without the use of a textbook. With an iPad in the classroom, my students will be re-energized in learning and excited to come to school everyday.

My Project

It does not come as a surprise that students in today's society are geared toward technology. At home, many of them are instantly online chatting with friends, playing video games, listening to music on mp3 players, and creating their own websites to express themselves and feel like individuals. However, while they are at school they are asked to read from a textbook and write down notes with a pencil and paper? That is a gap that needs to be closed if our society wants students to excel. With an iPad, I am able to engage students on their level with the most up to date technology. An iPad will allow my students to create projects, watch educational videos, and learn through games and other apps. Students will use apps like iMovie, iBooks, Prezi, British Museum, etc. to complete their projects over Egypt, African Tribes, and China, and finally will present them to the class, making social studies an interactive classroom!
