My Students

My students are eager third graders that are beginning to develop a love of reading! I have 61 third graders from a rural community in southern Ohio.

Many of our students come from homes without access to the internet, either by lack of service or lack of devices.

Two-thirds of our students receive free and reduced lunches. We offer free breakfast for all of our students, and send home backpack food on Friday from our local food pantry. Several of my students come from homes with illiterate parents. These homes have many children, some as many as 10 children in a single home, and are coming to school in survival mode, not learning mode. We offer an after school program and many of my students stay here at school until 5 everyday for tutoring and snacks.

Despite these hardships, my students come into my room with big smiles on their faces and tons of hugs to give out. They work to the best of their abilities and are kind and supportive of one another. In my classroom, we are a family!

My Project

I am asking for two Apple IPad Minis. I will be able to use this for reading instruction in our classroom every day. We will be able to use these for the learning apps, electronic and audio books, as well as interactive learning with sites like kahoot and mobymax

The early years in school are the building blocks that will set children on their life course.

Students develop a love a reading at this level, and with your donation this will allow my students to practice important skills while being engaged and excited. Many students do not have access to electronic devices or computers, and I believe that by allowing students to use devices that they see as FUN for learning is a great way to help students grow academically.
