"Self-expression must pass into communication for its fulfillment," Pearl S. Buck once said; and my students try to apply this quote to their lives every day. However, communicating wants and needs effectively is very difficult for many of my students with developmental or cognitive impairments
My students are 4 to 10 years old and attend a public elementary school of over 700 students.
They love Music, Painting, Dancing, P. E., Gardening, playing games, going the school library, and usually academics. They have differing abilities including Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Angelman Syndrome, Epilepsy, Visual Impairments, and Hearing Impairments. Many have parents currently serving in the U.S. Military.
My Project
The iPad that we are requesting is absolutely amazing! It has 16 GB and is protected by the Apple Care Plan. This is a type of technology that many in the world use so my students will hopefully feel like "just one of the crowd". Having this technology will allow our students to communicate with Assistive Technology apps as well as learn reading, writing, and math with academic apps.
Having this iPad will allow students from 4 to 10 years of age with severe disabilities to increase their communication with peers and adults.
It will also allow them to demonstrate their extensive knowledge throughout the day.
