My Project
It is important as a therapist to be able to adapt to the needs of your students in an instant. Each morning, I prepare individualized activities/materials for students, depending on their IEP goals/objectives. Often, this requires paper materials premade during teacher breaks or before/after the school day.
Access to an iPad (with carefully chosen speech/language development apps) allows for immediate pivots in therapy and access to visual aids to help scaffold learning on the spot.
When a student is doing well with their current goal, they may need something more challenging. If paper materials aren't ready, iPads contain a variety of apps/materials to keep therapy moving forward without stopping to find necessary materials.
When a student is not progressing as quickly, an iPad provides access to backup activities, which may help provide visual aids, brain breaks, video modeling, audio recording for real-time feedback, real-life photo support (using the camera/photos), and more! Again, precious minutes of learning are not lost to locating new materials.
