Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a bilingual speech-language pathologist working in a very large low-income urban district. The school where my students attend is one of the largest one in the state and one of the few fully bilingual schools in the district. My students come from various backgrounds and cultures, which makes it really interesting when communicating and sharing ideas. I service 50 amazing students with special needs who work very hard everyday to achieve their goals and become better and effective communicators in order to shine in this constantly evolving world that we live in.
My Project
I like to create speech-language lessons that are interactive for my students because those are the ones that make a true impact on how they learn the skills that I am trying to teach. We like to work on articulation skills using a multi sensory approach with apps that are interactive and provide them with positive reinforcements while targeting specific sounds in error. We also like to work on acquiring and enhancing their vocabulary by using apps that make it fun to learn by providing real and natural visuals. Others skills that we work on are following directions and answering questions from stories in order to improve their semantic and comprehension skills. Using different apps can make it unforgettable for them, which is why I am requesting an iPad with its cover.
My students will be able to learn new skills and enhance the ones they already possess all while using the latest technology and evidence-based materials.
