My students need an ipad and headphones to bring our white board to life with technology in the 21st century. We are creating an interactive board from anywhere in the class!
Do you remember what it was like having to walk up in front of the class to work on the board? Having an ipad where any and all students can interact with the board from their own seat will allow the use of modern technology and participation without having the feeling of being alone at the front.
My students are of the lower socio-economic status on a military base.
This being said, I teach a population of students who do not have the luxuries of most in this country. Most of my students do not know what it is like to live or travel off the military post because their families cannot afford it. My school was built in the 70's and because of the economic status, we do not have the funds to update our classrooms with the technology needed to keep up with the 21st century. I find that when students have to work up at the board to build their modeling skills or explain answers, they are stuck in the old ways of teaching and feel anxiety from having to be in front of everyone with a marker. Having the ipad in their hands at their own desk I believe will alleviate that stress, allow the use of modern technology with modern applications, and allow all students with disabilities the ability to participate with comfort and ease. Please help my students work with modern technology!!! :-)
My Project
With the use of an ipad in the classroom, my students will be able to use the use of modern technology that most are unable to experience at home. I have been learning of many applications available through the apple company that are made for classrooms in the 21st century but require the use of ipads and interactive white boards. If I can bring the use of these applications and programs into my classroom and white board I know that my students will have more opportunities to learn and grow. Not only will they be learning how to use modern technology, they will be working on projects such as presentations that will be delivered via the ipad from any location in the classroom. I believe this will alleviate stress and anxiety of students that are uncomfortable with presenting from the standard front of the room. I also feel this will allow any student with any disability the equal opportunity of presenting their projects or ideas or even answering procedural questions. Create Equality!
This project is extremely important for my classroom so that I can bring an opportunity to my classroom that will not be available for years to come.
Due to the economic status of my school, we are behind all other schools in the use of technology. I want to close that gap and give my students the opportunity they deserve. I want my students to be able to use technology that is modern and allow ALL students the chance to learn comfortably with the enrichment of intelligence.
