I am a speech-language pathologist that works in a k-5 building. My primary caseload is k-2. The students I work with have a variety of communication disorders including speech sound disorders, expressive and receptive language disorders, and pragmatic language disorders. Their disorders vary from non-verbal students using AAC devices to working on single articulation errors. The majority of my students require a lot of 1:1 support to make progress towards IEP goals and improve their overall communication skills. My goal is to help my students communicate more effectively now so they can be lifelong communicators.
Having an iPad designated for my students during their speech and language sessions would be life-changing. I would love to do stations with my students this school year and include a technology station. An iPad will allow my students to record videos and speech samples that we can analyze together later. Research shows that playing speech samples back to students can help them hear and make changes independently. This can lead to stronger self-monitoring skills. Additionally, my students can use the digital platform, Seesaw, to share with their families what they are working on during speech and language sessions.
