iPad for Classroom Creativity

My students need an iPad mini with a large GB storage, an iPad mini case, a stylus pen to use with the iPad, a few new books for our classroom library, and an easel pad.

My Students

Room 303 is a place breeding with creativity. It is home to Ms. Burns' English II classes, English IV classes, Creative Writing class, and Hebrew and the New Testament Classes. However, often this creativity is stifled due to a lack of resources.

Advantage Academy students have many natural gifts, especially in the realm of creativity.

Sadly, in a school without a library, a band, a single art class, or a chorus, our students have limited creative outlets. Similarly, my students also have a love for technology and expressing themselves through digital outlets. However, financial limits suppress the amount of exposure students have to personal and classroom technology devices. AA students yearn for better books to read, better sources of technology, and better ways to feel like an individual among the hallways filled with black collared shirts and khaki pants.

My Project

The purpose of my project is to integrate classic creative outlets (as seen in the books and poster paper) and digital ones. The iPad is my biggest purchase for this project, and my research has proven that my students will be able to use this tool for many creative purposes. Classroom debates, presentations, speeches, and Socratic Seminars can now be filmed, re-watched, and analyzed by students. The Apple Movie Maker Software will enable students to write, act out, edit, and publish scenes from their favorite books. On the same software, students could create book trailers for their 9 Week Independent Reading Projects. Grammar lessons would become more interactive if students could use an iPad to correct punctuation mistakes (which would be projected to the board). From a teacher's perspective, I would be thrilled to have one place where students could remember to sign out books from our classroom library and compile a list of new books to request.

Not only will this project birth exciting new ways to express creativity within the walls of Room 303, but my students would also become more technologically literate in an increasingly digital world.

This project would help set my students on an even playing field as their wealthier peers who attend schools where all students have access to digital media in their classrooms, in their homes, and even in their pockets. Help foster creative digital learning today!
