My students are missing a huge resource to their education: a library. These outstanding 10th, 11th, and 12th graders attend Advantage Academy, a charter school in Grand Prairie, TX. For one reason or another, all of my students chose to attend Advantage Academy in pursuit of a school that fit their educational needs more so than the schools for which they were zoned. Still, the financial challenges of a charter school can sometimes interfere with the learning potential of these eager students who hope to attend college in the near future. Here is the main issue: my students need books that they want to read. Not class sets that they are forced to read but books to experience and love by choice. The only independent reading books that my students have readily available to them are found on one meager bookshelf in my classroom. Many of my students are fervent readers who wish they had more options of reading material at school.
