My students need ipad cases for their iPads when we are using technology in the classroom. They also need the thermo accessories for science, and art supplies.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
A typical day in my science class is not just learning science, but doing science. Many of my students come with little or no exposure to science--reading from a textbook is the norm. We conduct experiments, perform labs, and make science real. My students come to see themselves as scientists.
Approximately 68% of our students receiving free and reduced lunch and more than one in five lives below the poverty level.
The median income within the school district is $29,482. The major employers in our area are the school district, a state prison, and Wal-Mart. Three years ago the music, physical education, and art programs were cut from our school. Budgets for materials have been very slim. A large portion of the materials I use to perform scientific investigations in my class are purchased by me. My students are hard workers and devour any challenge I put before them. They love doing science and breaking out of the normal restraints of the classroom. I see within them a yearning for opportunities to grow academically, but these opportunities have been narrowing with each budget year.
My Project
I plan on using the iPad cases and crayons in a variety of ways. The main use for the tablets will be to improve reading comprehension and literacy. Students will be able to use this technology to improve their reading in a way they normally don't. The iPads will allow my students to be creative and work collaboratively when completing tasks.
They will be able to use the iPads and the thermostats that go with for our outdoors lessons with weather. This will help tremendously with that unit. The cases are to protect the iPads. The crayons and colored pencils will be used for their science notebooks and for art classes.
These iPads cases will protect that ipads that will cause students to have to think critically and work with others to solve a problem.
It is a small step toward them gaining this important skill. I know this is not a big project, but any project of this nature will give my students a leg up. The are supplies are also very necessary for their notebooks and art class. Thank you for your consideration.
