This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are fun-loving, creative, and incredibly hard-working. We love working together in small groups to learn during the day. Visitors to our class always comment on the sense of family we have created in our room. This family atmosphere has helped us navigate some difficult things in our class such as DHR involvement with families, loss of parents, and transient classmates.
Despite all the difficulties, high levels of engagement and even higher expectations, creativity, student discourse, laughter, and music are all things visitors to our room routinely notice.
I have also put in place an open door policy. I invite and strongly encourage parents and guardians to pop in on the learning at any point in the day. Building strong relationships with both my students and parents has made all the difference for our classroom.
My Project
With this iPad, my students will be able to have more tech time. Right now, 18 students share one iPad. We love to use iPads to research and do learning activities. I also love for students to create digital portfolios for their work. Having an additional iPad would help to streamline this weekly process.
We would also love to use them to reach out to other classrooms, authors, and others who live outside our community to truly become global learners.
Most of my students rarely travel outside of their community. I imagine us being able to FaceTime or Skype with others to broaden my students' worldview.
