Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach 3-5 year old children in an early childhood special education classroom. I have eleven students. My students have a variety of disabilities such as visual impairments, hearing impairments, autism and developmental delays. I also have one student with Down's Syndrome. The majority of my students receive additional services (physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech/language therapy). I have ten students who are completely non-verbal. Our classroom focuses on all areas of development (social, daily living, motor, language and cognitive).

My Project

We are very fortunate to have a set of 3 classroom Ipads that my students are so excited about! I am requesting sets of headphones to allow my students to utilize all the wonderful apps without being distracted by noise in the classroom or others on their Ipad. My students already struggle to focus and stay on task so headphones are important to keep them engaged in their own work. This will also help prepare them for wearing headphones in the computer lab. Students will be able to focus on math, phonics, writing, and read aloud books. With headphones, this area will become my listening center which is a classroom requirement in our school.
