My Students

I am the librarian at an inner-city middle school. We have a diverse population, including English Language Learners. Our students are eager to create and explore. Our Makerspace area in the library is a place where kids love to come and make connections with their learning through collaboration and inquiry.

My students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and have limited resources available to them at home.

Many are involved in an after-school program through our school and are here until early evening due to parent work schedules.

Our middle school does its best to help access content that is meaningful and engaging. Due to lack of funding, we are limited in what types of resources we can provide our students.

My Project

These books will enhance our library collection and add the new titles for the Iowa Children's Choice and Iowa Teen Award books for 2021-2022. The Iowa Award books will provide our students at Wilson with many different types of books to choose from.

With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.

As students are able to choose and read independently at their own grade level, they will be able to improve their reading skills. This project will enhance their reading abilities and provide them with appreciation for different types of the written word.
