My Project

The use of a whiteboard would greatly enhance my counseling abilities with students, especially in whole group and small group counseling. Using the workshop model during guidance lessons, students have been limited to using just paper and pencil to work on SMART goal setting skills, problem solving skills, and emotional identification skills. A class whiteboard would allow me to show exactly what students needed to complete, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that the pencils never seem to last. (They frequently walk out of my classroom.) Erasers seem to disappear, and paper becomes in increasing cost since students are using so much of it. When students have questions about instructions, how to complete the task, or the famous "what am I supposed to do?" question, they know to raise their hand and ask for clarification. Even though they are great about doing this, it is distracting for many of my students who have focusing issues, and they miss important instructions form either myself or other students and slow down the pace of the class. I only have 30 minutes with students, and I like to maximize my time with them. By having a classroom whiteboard, students will be able to avoid all of these problems and focus on increasing their learning!
