Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Prekindergarten in Southeast Dallas. Many of my students are from foster homes, single parent homes, or being raised by their grandparents. They come to my class at different levels of readiness for learning. Some kids begin with learning to sit for a story while others are able to retell the story. Please help my Prekindergarten class find inspiration and love of learning through flexible seating in the classroom. Flexible seating will provide an inviting, exciting, and comfortable space for creative thinkers to explore their curiosities. Our community has struggles. Making a classroom that is fun, inspiring, and innovative provides educational opportunities that will help our prekindergarten students want to succeed in school. My Project
By providing flexible seating, students choose for themselves where to do their work and stay engaged in that work. Making the classroom space open, exciting, and comfortable can inspire student accountability, not only with their learning but their behavior as well. The ability to move, rock, or get comfortable allows my students to focus on their learning rather than distracting others. I have seen students stay engaged in learning when given the opportunity to choose where to work. Right now, students can stand, sit on the floor with clipboards, or lay on the floor with their journals. Providing wobble stools and bean bags will give my students comfortable options to enable them to focus on their learning.
