By providing flexible seating, students choose for themselves where to do their work and stay engaged in that work. Making the classroom space open, exciting, and comfortable can inspire student accountability, not only with their learning but their behavior as well. The ability to move, rock, or get comfortable allows my students to focus on their learning rather than distracting others. I have seen students stay engaged in learning when given the opportunity to choose where to work. Right now, students can stand, sit on the floor with clipboards, or lay on the floor with their journals. Providing wobble stools and bean bags will give my students comfortable options to enable them to focus on their learning.
