My Students

My small, rural, Title I school struggled with the forced alternate-learning days that occurred last year. I am excited to at least have them in my classroom but want to keep them as safe as possible.

The majority of the school is either bound for the workforce or for a two-year, Community College degree.

My Chemistry and Physics courses may be the only upper-level science to which they are ever exposed. I want this experience as engaging and wonderful as possible, to open their eyes to the wonder in the world around them.

My Project

One of the most difficult things about the pandemic, besides the sickness, is the adaptation that needs to happen to all lab activities.

With these materials, whether a student is learning at home or in my classroom, they can decode clues to help learn about writing chemical formulas, uncover solutions to lab investigations, or even begin to understand the scientific properties of UV-light!

Your support will allow at least three different lab investigations to be completed. In Chemistry, students will be given chemical formulas and asked to name them. They will check their answers by reading the invisible ink. Students will later hunt for clues left at a crime scene to allow them to determine the source of a water sample. In Physics, students will investigate the properties of UV light and determine what causes the "magical glow" to actually occur.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
