Introduction to Milling

My students need to learn to how to do basic milling before they start working with a CNC vertical mill. We are excited to add a manual mill to our Fablab!

My Students

I am looking forward to working with a new group of students next year. I have been teaching traditional Math for the last 11 years and I am exciting to switch paths and start integrating my ten years of FIRST experience into the classroom. We will be integrating FIRST and STEM into an 8th grade robotics and STEM discovery course and also a 3D design, modeling and manufacturing course.

The students deserve a new and innovative way to learn and I want to give it to them.

We will be doing projects that help them learn about STEM careers as well as showing them how to problem solve, communicate and investigate new concepts.

My Project

We are bringing our FIRST robotics teams into the classroom and we need to improve our machining capabilities. We are asking for a Dayton TK16861354T Mill/Drill Machine, R8 collet set and end mills to allow us to push students farther in their machining capabilities. We are constantly trying to machine parts, correctly locate holes and we struggle with making the pieces we need.

Our plan is to create new classes that both middle/high school, general/special education students will be able to take that support our robotics team, but also get students ready for future manufacturing and STEM careers.

Our goal is to create a partnership with a local Technical School to get students credit at that school for their work in high school.
