My students need the Beginner Circuit kits to help them full access their science curriculum. These kits will provide my students a real life, hands-on experience of working with electrical circuits.
My group of students are a very diverse group with a variety of educational needs and backgrounds. My students arrived at my school from various parts of the world including Africa and Central America. The majority of my students are learning English as their second language while also learning classroom content. Some are learning English while also facing learning disabilities and/or social and emotional disabilities.
My students have an uphill climb but that does not deter them from giving their best and maintaining a positive outlook on education.
My students are extremely self-conscious about their academics but still try their hardest. Their strongest desire to is fit in with the other students in the building and to be seen as "normal" middle schoolers. The majority of my students come from low-income households, and it is a struggle for them to afford the most basic school supplies.
My Project
The use of Beginner Electrical Circuit Kits in my classroom will allow my students to access technology that is not currently available to them for a variety of reasons. My students will be able to gain a hands-on connection with the basics of electricity electrical circuits. My students will be able to explore the basics of how their favorite electronic devices work. They will have the opportunity to extend their learning by gaining a life skill that can be used during their time in school and at home.
The beginner circuit kits will give my students a foundation in electricity that they can use as they further their education at technical high schools and colleges.
