Intro to Photography

Help me give my students an opportunity to explore photography in the art room such as backdrops, stop motion box bases and lighting.

My Students

Maya Angelou said, "You can't use up creativity, the more you use, the more you have." The seventh and eighth grade students I have are learning how to explore their creativity. This diverse group of kiddos don't come from environments where the arts thrive. It's in the classroom where their imaginations are nurtured.

The art room is one place where they get to be dreamers, makers, readers, writers and problem solvers.

Creativity is innate within us and as an art teacher, it's my job to help our students find what might be buried deep within.

My Project

The students in our district have the option to take photography as high schoolers. However, there is no exposure to photography at the middle school level. The feeder high school is donating point and shoot cameras to us. I would love to be able to give our students the opportunity to learn photography with similar equipment as the high school students so that their transition is smooth and confident.

Photography is an amazing way to express identity.

The students that I teach don't always get to explore that and with this project, they will be able to explore their individuality. They will also learn skills in order to continue photography in high school. We are very excited about this opportunity and thank you ahead of time for helping us out!
