This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
First off, my students are all GIRLS! They are some of the brightest young ladies who are destined and determined to be the voices of the future.
The young ladies that I teach hold themselves to high esteem.
They are set on breaking down barriers and overcoming adversity. My girls are up for any challenge! They love science, technology and the arts! The talent in my Musical Theatre class is what motivates me each day! Students come in ready to work - singing, dancing and acting!
My Project
This is a project for our first Musical! Students are so excited to create the environment for the Musical, "Into The Woods". Set design in theatre requires many tools and many hands in order to bring the world of the play to life. Students will be using materials to build trees to create the forest environment for the characters to travel through.
Students will learn how to analyze the script from a set design perspective.
The trees will be constructed from left over wood (2x4's) that the theatre department already has and the new drills. Students will be using the butcher paper, spray foam and hot glue to create the bark of the trees. The butcher paper will be crumpled and the spray foam gives a lot of texture. The trees will be very light weight to allow for easy movement. We will be using the acrylic paint to give some dimension of color.
