Interesting and Exciting Books for Students

My students need copies of high-interest books such as Divergent, Monster and The Book Thief that ignite their interests and engage them in literature.

My Students

Do you remember the first book that you didn't want to put down? Some of my students have not yet found the book that will open their eyes to the wonderful world of reading. It is my goal to provide my students with books that speak to them, and engage them in literature.

I work in an urban public high school.

I teach integrated students and honors students 9th grade English. My students are vibrant, insightful, talented,and energetic. Each student brings a unique energy to the classroom, and each student has a different set of needs and interests. I have many students that read below grade level, and as a result, shy away from reading and view it as a burden. I also have students who read above grade level, and are always looking for something new to explore. My school is a fantastic institution dedicated to providing students with a quality education. We work hard to give students everything they need to succeed in school and beyond.

My Project

These books will create a classroom library from which students will be able to choose a book for their fourth quarter reading project. Students will read the book of their choice throughout the entire fourth quarter. They will create an in-depth literary analysis and write a review of their book of choice. These resources will immensely help my students as many students are not able to go out and purchase a book that interests them, and while we have a fantastic library, there is not enough stock to support high-interest books for the entire 9th grade class. My students have expressed interest in reading the books on this list, and I promised them that I would do everything in my power to supply them with books that speak to them.

Donations to this project will greatly improve my classroom by providing students with a library full of books that interest and excite them.

This will help students who struggle with reading and allow them to find the magic within the written word. Donations to this project will influence the way my students view not only their fourth quarter project, but reading in general. As Stephen King once said, "books are a uniquely portable magic." I want to expose my students to that magic.
