I am a second-grade teacher in a high poverty elementary school in southern Delaware. I have both regular education and special education students in my classroom. I also have a high population of ESL students who are either new to the country, still learning English or lacking language and vocabulary. I love teaching second grade! Second graders are enthusiastic about learning and becoming independent individuals. My students are so passionate about learning and work so hard to overcome their daily challenges from home and school. I am always looking for ways to continue to challenge my students and better prepare them for third grade.
My students are fascinated with non-fiction, particularly animals and insects. Our next unit focuses on soil and insects, which my students are very excited for. We need additional dry erase boards and erasers so students can use them for our nature walks to jot down their observations. On our nature walks, students will be making observations of insects they see, food sources for insects, and the habitat. Dry erase boards are perfect for making quick observations on nature walks because they are a hard surface which students can easily write on, unlike paper. They also are great for quick and easy not taking. Notes can be written, shared, and erased for the next activity. Please help us ensure that we have enough boards for all students on our nature walks.
