Help me give my students opportunities to engage with and explore the Universal Declaration of Human Rights through collaborative conversations, read alouds, and displays that increase their intercultural awareness.

My Project

Our school is in a large, urban setting and attracts students from all over the city. Our school's diversity is valued and an important part of who we are as a community of learners. Our student population is comprised of 22% African American, 30% Hispanic, 36% Caucasian, 5% Asian, and 7% other. 14% of our students are also diverse learners. They are caring, empathetic, and reflective, always striving to take action in the world and to help others in need. They are also extremely curious and knowledgeable, learning both Arabic and Japanese in school. Within our school walls, we work to provide our students with experiences that level the playing field, ensuring access to materials and opportunities that will enhance the learning environment.

My hope to is continue providing students with opportunities to explore who they are and their connection to others in the world through conversations and activities anchored in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The large charts and books from this project will provide visuals for students to make connections with their peers in our school community, as well as give them the materials to make posters about their learning.
