My Students
My students are always trying their best to learn. I serve the students who learn differently, those who have to make extra effort and who crave community connection and social-emotional learning.
My students are sometimes over-looked because they do not fit in with the typical classroom, but they have dreams and work hard just like everyone else.
My favorite thing about teaching them is that they impress me with what they already know and they challenge me to build different types of lessons to fit their learning styles.
They are visual learners, auditory learners and interactive learners who need a boost in their social-emotional learning and strive toward developing skills to build long-lasting friendships and relationships. They need role-models and frequent modeling through pictures, stories and interactive activities to learn.
My Project
This iPad will allow students to read social stories specifically tailored to them as well as interact with those stories and games. They will learn mindfulness and social-emotional regulation through interaction with the iPad and will learn how to access digital resources that will help them develop social skills. Interacting with students digitally will also make it more efficient to record data and to quickly adapt lessons to fit student needs.
When lessons are adapted to fit my students, they will be able to learn faster and stay excited about learning.
With the iPad they can use apps like Calm and Social Story Creator & Library. New technology for students is being developed every day. An iPad will help me to utilize that new technology and provide more efficient service to to my students. Students will have access to tools that will facilitate social skill-building and make them upstanding citizens. They will develop independent skills and knowledge to navigate the world.
Lastly, we know that kids sometimes make mistakes. That's the reasoning behind requesting funds for a case and screen protector, so that this iPad can be used for years to come to reach as many students as possible.
