Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach ECSE (Early Childhood Special Education). My students are 3-4 years old. They are a wonderful group of students with mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or hold a paintbrush. My heart is in this age group. My students are all working on building foundational skills needed to be successful in school and life. "My classroom is a mistake-making, laughter-sharing, independence-building, brain-stretching, sort of place! Everyone Matters!"

By donating to our project, you will help my students to have authentic experiences and to discover and explore the world around them by creating meaningful connections.

Many of these students have limited exposure to science, sensory, and hands-on toys, and are the ones who benefit from them the most. They will be able to stay engaged and take ownership of their learning with these materials. Ideally, I change out the centers every 2-3 weeks to work on new skills and keep the centers fun and engaging. This project will focus on science, sensory, and art centers. During center time my students will be able to explore using the sensory bins related to our weekly academic themes, and they will be able to develop their imaginations and think outside the box. Students will expand their vocabularies by engaging in authentic language development. Students will practice sharing, turn-taking, and negotiating with each other. Students will gain practical experience with sorting, classifying, and organizing materials.

The spaceship, workbench, Magna-Tiles, and other materials are essential for allowing my students to engage in purposeful play during centers, which will occur every day in a fun and creative way. My students need extra support in developing social and academic skills that are so crucial to lifelong success.
